Before running a Facebook ad that opens WhatsApp, make sure your business Page, brand information and contact button are ready.
In September 2026, we created the Sales Number One Facebook Page and connected its WhatsApp Business number. The setup exposed several practical issues: a rejected Page name, a category that had been typed but not selected, a permission warning despite a verification code being sent, and optional advertising prompts after linking.
This guide covers the Page setup and linking process documented in that session. We did not create an ad account, add a payment method, set a budget or publish an ad. Screenshots below are from the actual setup; brand and account information has been masked.
1. Gather your materials
- A genuine personal Facebook account with permission to manage the business Page.
- An active WhatsApp Business number and the phone that receives its verification code.
- Your business name and a recognizable alternative if Facebook rejects the original spelling.
- A short business description and your full HTTPS website address.
- A square logo and a landscape cover image.
- Accurate service hours and a business phone number you agree to display publicly.
You do not need to configure an ad account or payment method just to create a Page and link WhatsApp. Prepare those separately when you are ready to advertise.
2. A copyable instruction for your AI assistant
Use this with an assistant that can control a browser. Replace the bracketed fields first.
You are a browser assistant. Help me create or update my business Facebook Page and link WhatsApp Business using the browser where I am already signed in. Business name: [name] Alternative name: [name] Category: [category] Bio: [description] Website: [full HTTPS address] Public phone: [number or leave blank] WhatsApp Business: [country code and full number] Service hours: [hours] Logo file: [path] Cover file: [path] First check whether the intended Page already exists. If it does, update that Page instead of creating a duplicate. Select Category from the actual suggestion list. If Facebook rejects the name, record the error and suggest up to three alternatives for my approval. Before creating the Page or saving publicly visible changes, show me the proposed information and wait for my confirmation. Leave missing email or address fields blank. Upload only the files I provided and check the crop before saving. Switch into the correct Page, select Send WhatsApp Message in its action-button settings, and enter my business number. Pause when verification is required so I can read and enter the code myself. Do not request, record, repeat or retain the code. Do not create or modify ads, ad accounts, payment methods, budgets, audiences or placements. Do not click Boost, Create ad or Publish. Do not post, message or invite contacts automatically. Skip optional WhatsApp post or ad prompts. Ask before changing permissions or taking any paid or public action. Report completed items, unfinished items, differences from the guide and anything I must handle myself. Check the saved Page name, URL, category, website, phone and WhatsApp action button. State whether any ads or charges occurred.
An assistant without browser controls can explain the steps but cannot click for you. Keep personal control of sign-in, verification codes, permissions and spending.
3. Create the Page and select a category
Open the Facebook Page creation page and fill in the Page name, Category and Bio.
Typing a category into the search field is not enough. Choose an item from the suggestions and check that it has been added. Otherwise, the Create Page button may remain unavailable.
During our setup, Facebook rejected “SalesNumberOne.” The spaced version, “Sales Number One,” was accepted. This is one observed case, not a rule that every unspaced brand name fails. Prepare an alternative that still represents your business accurately.
Keep the bio focused: who you help, what problem you solve and what your service does.
4. Add accurate contact information
After creation, Facebook guides you through additional details. Available fields and their order may vary by account, language and business category.
- Enter the full HTTPS website URL and check its spelling.
- Select the country code before entering the phone number.
- Only add contact details you control and intend to make public.
- Leave unavailable email or address fields blank.
Software running around the clock does not necessarily mean human support is available 24/7. Enter hours that reflect the service customers can actually receive.
5. Set the logo and cover image
The profile image needs to remain recognizable at a small size and inside a circular crop. The cover should quickly explain the business and its value.
Our setup used a brand mark for the profile picture and a concise value statement for the cover. Preview the crop before saving. Keep important text, people and products away from edges, and check the appearance on a phone as well as a desktop.
6. Switch into the Page and configure WhatsApp
After creating the Page, you may still be using your personal profile. Open the Page you manage and switch into it before editing the action button.
Facebook access allows a person to switch into a Page on Facebook. Task access generally works through management tools rather than by switching into the Page. See Facebook's Page access explanation.
From the Page's action-button control or More menu:
- Choose Add action button and select Send WhatsApp Message.
- Confirm the country code and WhatsApp Business number.
- Request a verification code.
- Have the number's owner read and enter the code personally.
- Save and check whether the menu now shows Edit action button.
Facebook may move the entry point. Its action-button instructions explain the current supported workflow.
7. Handle a warning without repeatedly requesting codes
In our session, Facebook displayed a permission warning while also showing Code sent. The code did arrive, and verification subsequently succeeded.
If this happens, first check the phone rather than repeatedly clicking resend. Confirm the country code, the business number, Page access and any existing account links. If no code arrives, wait for the resend timer and retry as directed.
Keep verification codes out of shared screenshots, documents and AI conversations.
As an alternative, start in WhatsApp Business: Tools → Facebook & Instagram → Facebook → Continue, then choose the correct Page. WhatsApp documents the requirements, permissions and account-linking limitations in its official linking guide.
8. Skip optional posts and ads when setup is the only goal
After linking, Facebook may suggest creating a post with a WhatsApp button or creating a WhatsApp ad. Neither suggestion is required to retain the completed connection.
- Choose Skip if you do not want to create a post.
- Choose Cancel if you do not intend to create an ad.
- Do not add payment details or configure a budget at this stage.
- Avoid Boost, Create ad and Publish unless advertising has been separately approved.
We canceled these optional prompts. No ad was created or published during the documented setup.
9. Verify the public result
Check the actual saved result before calling the setup complete.
- The Page name, category, description and visual identity match the business.
- The website URL is correct and uses HTTPS.
- The public phone number has the correct country code and business ownership.
- The menu shows Edit action button.
- The action-button settings show the intended WhatsApp number.
- In visitor view, clicking the WhatsApp button opens the intended business contact.
- No unintended ad, payment method, budget or post has been created.
This completes the contact infrastructure, not an advertising campaign. Before spending money, separately confirm account ownership, currency, time zone, payment authorization, budget, audience, creative claims and an end-to-end message test.
10. The practical lessons
A category must be selected, not just typed. A rejected name needs a compliant alternative. Linking can be completed from the Page or, when appropriate, from WhatsApp Business. A warning does not always mean a code was never sent. An advertising prompt is not a required linking step.
Most importantly, confirm the state each step is meant to achieve rather than memorizing the position of a button. Facebook changes its interface; the business checks remain useful.
